Kitchen secrets/Cooking tips

Grilling onion rings

Onion slices can be difficult to handle on the grill, with rings often slipping through the grate and onto the coals. Here's how to grill onions safely and easily. 1.Cut thick slices (at least 1/2 inch ) from large red, Vidalia, or Spanish onions and impale them all the way through with a slender bamboo skewer ( it should be about the same thickness as a toothpick or a thin metal skewer). If using longer skewer, thread two slices on each skewer. 2.The skewer onion slices remain intact as they grill so on rings can fall onto the coals. Best of all, the onions are easily flipped with tongs.

Defining "Organic"

If a product is labeled "organic," it means that a government-approved certifier has inspected the farm where it was produced to ensure that the farmer followed all the rules necessary to meet the USDA's organic standards. Farmers who produce organic foods use renewable resources that conserve the soil and water for future generations. And any company that handled or processed that food on its way to the grocery store must be certified organic, too.

I don’t have much of a green plants in my house. One day when my mother was over to babysit my children, I remarked that one of the plants in my window was looking dull and asked if she could try to revive it while I was gone. When I returned, to my surprise, the plant looked beautiful and full. “What did you do?” I asked. Her reply: “I turned it around.”
